An intrepid photographer travelled to the abandoned ghost town of Bodie in northern California to capture the historic buildings that are trapped in time. The eerie mining town located in Bodie Hills in Mono County, east of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, sits alone in the desert, 75 miles south east of Lake Tahoe. Professional photographer Julien McRoberts, 50, photographed several of the 170 buildings within Bodie, including the once heaving church, saloon and general store. Bodie was a gold mining camp in 1859 and by 1880 it had become a bustling town with a population of 2,700. It wasn’t until 1910 that the town was in decline, as gold miners moved out of Bodie and onto more promising land.
