A woman who was cyberstalked before being shot and paralysed by her ex-husband is campaigning to raise awareness for stalking victims. In August 2013, Alisha Waters, 33, was left in a wheelchair after her ex-husband, Dennis ‘DJ’ Mathis, 32, shot her repeatedly before fatally turning the gun on himself. In the months leading up to the attack, Mathis bombarded Alisha with hundreds of threatening texts and Facebook messages, but police refused to grant a protection order as they believed she was not in any physical danger. Now paralysed from the waist down, Alisha is speaking out about the attack to raise awareness of cyberstalking.
