This daredevil wildebeest tried a walk on the wild side - straight into the snatches of a huge 18 foot crocodile. The Nile Crocodile uses its huge strength to savagely attack the antelope as it tries to cross the Mara River in the Masai Mara in Kenya during its migration season last month. The animals take an annual long-distance trip timed to coincide with the pattern of rainfall and grass growth in East Africa in May and June each year. But this daring younger adult's luck ran out as the huge croc swiftly caught and dragged the poor antelope underwater to make its kill. At the end of the rainy season in East Africa, wildebeest migrate to wetter areas in response to a lack of drinking water. They travel hundreds of miles, crossing several rivers in a formation known as swarm intelligence where they work together to cross the obstacle as safely as possible. Casualities are inevitable however with the antelope, estimated to be five years old, becoming the croc's latest victim. The image was captured by New Zealand photographer David Lloyd, 41, during the migration season that occurs between July and October every year. He said: "The crocodile is the largest in Africa. They're huge creatures that make many kills like this every year. The migration season really is feeding time for them. "I estimate that the ones lurking in the river that day were about up between 15 and 18 feet. They're huge creatures.
