A PENSIONER was left with a fractured jaw after being beaten and robbed outside his home in Birmingham last weekend. William Hopkins, aged 78, was returning to his city centre home in Gooch Street when he was attacked from behind and knocked to the floor. The pensioner’s pockets were searched and his wallet containing bank cards and £40 cash was stolen, along with his late wife’s memorial card. He was taken to City Road Hospital for treatment following the robbery which happened at around 8pm on Saturday 10 November. Mr Hopkins said: “It was such a shocking attack and I don’t remember much about what happened.“As well as being left with a fractured jaw which means I can hardly eat, I also missed the remembrance parade on Sunday which is something I look forward to every year.”Det Con Lee Dawson, of Birmingham West CID, said: “This was an unprovoked, vicious and cowardly attack against a pensioner who was going about his own business. “The pictures show how horrific his injuries were and we want to hear from anyone who has any information about what happened.”
