GATEWAY TO THE UNDERWORLD

SPURTING water 20ft into the air, this is one well you wouldn't want to dip your bucket into. Seeming to be perfectly still at times, it is in fact dubbed the 'gateway to the underworld' and can be dangerously risky at high tide for all those who dare to get too close. These photographs were captured by Hawaiian photographer Chuck Babbitt, 57, after he decided to visit the unusual feature at Cape Perpetua, located on the central Oregon coast. 'Thor's Well is a deep hole located on the Pacific Ocean coastline,' says Chuck. 'It is a hole in the shelf that is connected to the ocean through submerged cave structures.'
