A woman was diagnosed with cancer after a cyst left her so bloated medics were convinced she was pregnant. Emma Colledge, 25, from Durham, was told by doctors that she was pregnant after becoming so bloated she looked like she was carrying a baby. But multiple pregnancy tests turned out to be negative. Her condition deteriorated, and at one point, Emma couldn’t eat without throwing up. It was not until the prison officer visited A&E in pain that a huge 30cm cyst was revealed on a ultrasound. Emma was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer. Later that month, she underwent an operation to remove the cyst. Two weeks later, during another op, Emma had a full hysterectomy. Surgeons also removed her appendix, spleen and part of her bowel, meaning she had a temporary stoma. Two months later, Emma was given the all-clear from cancer, but underwent six rounds of preventative chemotherapy. Now, she is sharing her story to encourage other women to listen to their body.
