A good samaritan who came to the aid of a rape victim has told how they were turned away from the Salvation Army because "they only help men". Brave Elliott Mannix, 18, managed to scare off rapist Mawawe Ibraham Karam as he lurked near his naked and screaming victim. Several other passers-by had ignored the 17-year-old A-Level student's pleas for help but hero Elliott came to her rescue as she stood nude and bleeding in the street. But incredibly, when he took her to the Salvation Army hostel to call for help, in Sneinton, Notts., their desperate pleas were ignored. Elliott said: "I desperately rang the buzzer at the hostel but the guy on the intercom just said we only help men here. "We were still passing people and I said, 'Please help me, this girl has just been raped', but they all ignored us. "Taxi drivers just pretended they didn't hear me right." Karam raped and attacked his victim for 90 minutes after she had enjoyed a night out in Nottingham city centre, on March 25 this year. Having originally pleaded not guilty, in court he exposed himself to the judge, screaming, "I'm guilty, I'm guilty".
