In 2021, Anneka Watkinson, now 37, from Lancashire, met Chris, now 40. Four years earlier, Chris had been diagnosed with an autoimmune condition called IGA nephropathy, which had destroyed his kidneys. To save his life, his mum donated her kidney. Thankfully, he'd been fine ever since. Anneka and Chris got engaged but six months later, he developed a fever. A biopsy of his kidneys revealed the return of his condition. Despite this, they married. Only, two weeks after their honeymoon, Chris' illness worsened and doctors told him that he'd need another live donor. Selflessly, Anneka's mum, Lesley, now 64, offered one of her kidneys. While she began tests to ensure her kidneys were healthy, Chris started dialysis. In March this year, they underwent the transplant surgery and afterwards, Chris felt like a new man. Thanks to her incredible mum, Anneka and Chris are looking forward to many more happy years together.
