The mother of a young woman who committed suicide after being relentlessly stalked by her ex-boyfriend has slammed his two year jail sentence as 'disgusting'. Kamaljit Sidhu was just 29 when she jumped from a bridge over the M6 in Great Barr, Birmingham in October 2013. In the months leading up to her death, the popular bar manager had been the victim of a vicious campaign of harassment and threats from her ex-boyfriend, Ryan Dey, 23. After refusing to accept that their relationship was over, Dey repeatedly watched the family house from his car and bombarded Kamaljit - known as 'Kam' to her friends - with abusive phone-calls and Facebook messages. Dey, of Hollyoak Close, Oldbury, Birmingham, was sentenced to two years in prison at Birmingham Crown Court, after Judge Michael Chambers QC accepted that he was a 'factor' in her death. But Kamaljit's grieving mother, Sarbjit Sidhu, 56, of Birmingham has slammed the sentence, describing it as a “slap in the face”.
